A Note from our new CEO, Jamie Mackinlay

Data is at the heart of most of the decisions we make on a daily basis. What time do I need to pick my son up? Where is he today? What movie or footy match are we going to watch together tonight? Where and when can I watch it?

To that end, I am excited to be immersing myself in a data centric enterprise. I’ve worked with media technology companies serving broadcast, media and telco customers for a large part of my career, helping them deliver and monetize video. It is increasingly evident that the success of these companies is dependent on metadata. Whether it is helping subscribers discover the content they wish to watch or helping service providers measure audience engagement – high quality metadata is the key.

Investment in metadata is critical to delivering the modern user experiences needed to delight and retain consumers. Our customers have relationships with many metadata providers such as Gracenote, IMDB or JustWatch but often struggle to consolidate and ensure its availability across their different services in a uniform way. Our job is to ingest, on behalf of our customers, all of the metadata they need, from all of the sources they select. We process that metadata to make it more valuable and meaningful to our customers.

How do we do this? It starts with our cloud-based platform – Atlas.

Atlas leverages the scalable and elastic data models expected in cloud deployments, but addresses the unique needs of our customers using advanced data science techniques combined with innovative, proprietary software and processes. Our customers require flexibility. Atlas automates metadata processes to ingest, organise and harmonise metadata from multiple customer defined sources. Atlas identifies incomplete, inconsistent or faulty data and turns it into the high-quality metadata needed by our customers and then delivers the updated and enriched metadata files to their chosen destination. Oh, and all of this happens in near real-time.

I’m proud to be leading a team that is focused on helping our customers solve challenges rooted in data. We are a mix of technologists with roots in AI, machine learning and AWS cloud expertise, working alongside editors with a passion for entertainment content and our customer success team who are fully aligned with our customers – always working to understand and fulfil their needs. We continuously evolve our platform to enhance its ability to address their requirements. We pay attention to the market with an understanding that home entertainment is changing. Just as there are many sources of metadata, there are also many ways to enjoy content.

Our vision is to elevate the value of metadata. We believe high-quality descriptive metadata empowers our broadcast, streaming and media customers to enhance and measure viewer engagement. By effectively exposing their entire content catalogues, video service providers can slash the amount of time viewers spend looking for content to fulfill their entertainment cravings. These viewers are able to spend more time enjoying that content. And, our metadata helps deliver more accurate measurement of that viewer behaviour.

We’ve been processing mission critical metadata for our elite and loyal clients for years. We will continue to do so as we expand our capabilities and pursue our growth strategy.

If you have metadata challenges and want to chat, we’ll be at IBC in the IABM Lounge in Hall 4, Level 2. Meet us at IBC or elsewhere by contacting me at hello@metabroadcast.com.
